sound effects…good times!”

Our little boy is here which means my pregnancy journal is complete. The second half didn’t fly by as fast as the first, but it was all worth it to have our little Colin at the end. Take a look at my second half of pregnancy:

Pregnancy: Nursery Reveal

“Sometimes the littlest things take up
the most room in our hearts.”
– UNKNOWN

I am so excited that the nursery is complete! We were blessed with so many wonderful things at our shower last weekend. This week, I was finding a place for everything and getting all the last items we would need. I’m pretty happy with how it came together. Now, we just have to wait for the little guy to arrive!

rachelperry_nursery1
We love how the paint color (Behr’s Cathedral Gray) turned out. It matches both the wood and white throughout the room. Two of my DIYs are the signs above the crib and the mobile. There is still a crib skirt to come (I’ll update when it arrives).
rachelperry_nursery2
Close up of the mobile.
rachelperry_nursery3
Just a few of the stuffed animals from friends and family on the adorable owl sheet.
rachelperry_nursery4
I know he is going to love his giant teddy bear from my shower at Corbin’s work.
rachelperry_nursery5
Corbin’s mom and stepdad purchased my favorite place to sit in the house. I know I’m going to spend a lot of time here!
rachelperry_nursery6
I thought the corner looked a little bare so yesterday I painted some trees.
rachelperry_nursery7
I knew these were the shelves I wanted but it took me forever to find them. I am so glad I did though because I love his books next to the chair.
rachelperry_nursery8
I couldn’t resist putting the tee-pee on my registry! Thank you to my Uncle John, Aunt Marty, and cousin, Megan, it was the first shower gift I received.
rachelperry_nursery9
I put good use to my old dresser.
rachelperry_nursery11
Corbin added shelves and rods to help me utilize the small closet. I’d say it works pretty well now. The baskets are perfect for essentials that we will not use everyday or until he is a little older.
rachelperry_nursery10
The dresser would not be complete without his owl nightlight/noise machine from my Aunt Sheri and Grandma.
rachelperry_nursery12
Michaels had a whole aisle of letter, but not many C’s. I ended up purchasing an O and having Corbin cut it for me. The woodland animal print was from my sister, Faith, from my shower invitations. The large print was purchased from an Etsy shop, ThePrintAnnex.
rachelperry_nursery13
Ikea drawer organizers made a lot of stuff very easy to sort and find.

Hope you liked the nursery! Keep an eye out for a post in the next few weeks with more weekly belly shots!

Pregnancy: Christmas Gender Reveal

“A new baby is like the beginning of all things
wonder, home, a dream of possibilities.”
– EDA J. LE SHAN

We told our family and friends on we were having a boy with a Christmas reveal. For our parents that we saw on Christmas Eve night and Christmas day, we wrapped an ornament filled with confetti. Our friends and family received cards in the mail for them to open on Christmas day. See how they turned out!

The day was filled with a lot of  blue confetti and lots of phone calls and text messages celebrating our baby boy!

Wow, I really cannot believe that I am at the halfway point! 20 weeks really feels like such a long time,  but then when I look back it feels like just yesterday I was taking my week 4 photo. Take a look at my first half of pregnancy:

Pregnancy: Annoucement

“Thanks, but I feel like it’s one of those cheesy dad mugs.”
– CORBIN PERRY

So it been a while, but I had a good excuse. I’ve been busy (not to mention tired and sick) trying to grow a baby. Yes, we are having a baby! See how I told everyone the good news:

rachelperry_announcement1

I make Corbin’s coffee every morning, so I had an idea a while back to get him a “dad” mug and have it facing the other way so when he took a look at it he would know. I didn’t expect him to not notice it was a new mug though. He walked around with it for about a half hour until I asked him if he liked his new mug. He only looked at the backside which said “Life is Good” and replied “Thanks, but I feel like it’s one of those cheesy dad mugs.” I then told him to “look at the front” which said “Best Dad Ever.” He just laughed and had a huge grin.

rachelperry_announcement3The next people we told were Corbin’s mom and stepdad because we had a weekend planned to visit them. I thought I would keep the mug thing going and made them two with an oil-based Sharpie and plain mugs.

rachelperry_announcement4My mom was next with my sisters. I included a cinnamon bun with the mugs for a breakfast package. Everyone was thrilled about the first grand baby!

rachelperry_announcement5This is one of the matching mugs for my sisters.

rachelperry_announcement6Now that our close family knew, it was time to let our friends know about our news. They got a package like this with a card (see below) that had a personalize message.

rachelperry_announcement7rachelperry_announcement8My friend, Ashley, was actually the first one to know I was pregnant because she told me she was. It’s pretty crazy that our due dates are two days apart! I didn’t want her to feel left out about not getting a mug so I made her the one pictured above.

rachelperry_announcement9My coworkers were greeted one Monday morning with a message letting them know there were “buns in the oven” for them to enjoy.

rachelperry_announcement10Corbin sent a message to his friends and family members asking what they thought of his new mug shot.

rachelperry_announcement11To tell the rest of our friends, Ashley and I wore matching skeleton costumes to our friend Halloween party.

Now it may seem like everyone knows, but we still had to announce on social media which is where we used the first photo with of both holding our mugs. Be on the look out for belly shots and the gender reveal!

House: Laundry Room

After the kitchen was complete, I was ready to tackle more projects on my list. The laundry room was one of my least favorite rooms because it was just not functional. See for yourself in the photo below.

rachelperry_laundryroom1
BEFORE: The laundry room when we first moved in. The cabinets provided very little storage because there was only one shelf that was splintering.
rachelperry_laundryroom2
AFTER: We cut the door in half and got rid of the dog crates. Now, the dogs have their own room and I don’t have to look at the ugly cages.
rachelperry_laundryroom3
I am still in storage heaven! It is so nice to be able to have room for everything. It is so much easier to get the items we need right away with it open.
rachelperry_laundryroom4
More of the shelfs and Leo made the shot. We removed the drop ceiling to expose the beams like the kitchen. The floors were also replaced with flooring Pergo we got a Home Depot.
rachelperry_laundryroom5
My cleaning corner. The vacuum was missing but it is usually placed in the middle. (The tube was just there temporarily, but has now found it’s home in the creek.)
rachelperry_laundryroom6
This is my shelf the is above the washing machine. It was an awesome find at Walmart for $12. The rack pulls out when you need it but can nicely be folded in when you don’t.

House: Kitchen Renovation

“The kitchen is the heart of the home.”
– UNKNOWN

After our wedding last year, we decided to start some small house projects. When I say small, we planned on painting the kitchen cabinets, replacing the kitchen floor and countertops. We got much more then we bargained for! When we pulled up the floor we found termites and it was worse then we could have imagined. The support beams were just laying on the dirt and were completely infested. We had to replace everything! The exterminator said that they had probably been there for years and it must have been missed in the inspection. Thankfully, Corbin, with the help of our friends and family, was able to do the majority of the work. It took longer that way, but saved us a lot of money and I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. Take a look for yourself!

rachelperry_kitchen1

rachelperry_kitchen2
BEFORE: The first thing you saw then you walked in was the oven.
rachelperry_kitchen3
Before: The dining area was carpeted, just had a recessed light, and there was a step up to it.
rachelperry_kitchen4
BEFORE: This was the step up that everyone loved to sit on, but I always worried that someone would fall. Now, without it I could extend the table for holidays and have an island.

We got the wood floors from two places, our attic and Corbin’s dad’s house. He was taking them off the walls of his backroom.

rachelperry_kitchen25
We used the old cabinets, but changed the layout.
rachelperry_kitchen26
Now, the window is the first thing you see when you walk in. It is so much nicer then the oven!

Corbin will be making an island that will go under the pendant lights.
rachelperry_kitchen32
We save a lot of money on the pendant lights by making our own shades with Ball jars.

This is my last week in the Back to School series, I hope you enjoyed! This one is one of my favorites and the easiest. What type of note will you put into your next packed lunch: a riddle, a joke, or a origami shape? My husband is getting a riddle tomorrow!
